  • Mouth guard

  • Female competitors in divisions above youth are required to wear a WKF approved female chest protector under the body protector.

A face mask is required for all pre-novice kumite competitors. A face mask is optional for all Novice and Youth Kumite competitors. All Kumite competitors are responsible for their own equipment, and must have both red and blue sets, including belts.

In the interest of time, we will continue to use the format introduced in 2016 for all recreation kata divisions for white, yellow, and orange belts aged 11 and under. Two competitors will perform their kata in the ring at the same time. Kata competitors in Novice (ages 10-11) and up are required to have red and blue belts.

Any competitor can register to compete in a division above their current age appropriate division. This is subject to the following conditions:

  1. The competitor must also be registered in their age appropriate division, AND

  2. The competitor must qualify to compete in that division at the next National Championships (March 2019).

All Grand Prix divisions will follow WKF Rules (effective date January 1, 2018), with the following exceptions:

  • Face mask and children's body protection are optional for Novice / Youth Kumite divisions. Standard WKF Style body protection may be used.

  • Novice kata competitors will be able to perform the same kata twice during the draw, but may not perform the same kata twice in a row.

  • Youth kata competitors must have performed five (5) different kata in the draw before being allowed to repeat a kata.

  • All recreation and Grand Prix divisions will be modified double-elimination, unless the division has only three competitors, in which case, the division will be round-robin.
